B Corp or Charity? For us It Was an Easy Decision ✅
"Why would you set up as a business and not a charity?"
This is a question we get a lot as we have such a clear social purpose.
It was actually an easy decision. Here's why...
Growth and scalability 📈: 600,000 UK children leave school each year. 1/3 remember doing work experience. Business is the best model for a scalable tech-driven solution.
Finite funding pools 💸: New charities inevitably compete for the limited available funding. We need to save these for those unable to generate an income. This is not us.
Incentives🎯: Businesses are funded by their customers. Charities are funded by 3rd parties. We want everything we do to be focused on solving our customers problems.
Our model is that our purpose-led partners who want help hiring diverse talent from their local communities pay. This means there are no costs for students, schools, or those other organisations who sign up just because normal work experience is a pain & they want a better way to help their local young people (i.e. those not interested in early years' hiring).
We need our amazing charities, and we are lucky to partner with many of them. However, we also need business. We are proud to be a business especially one that is part of B Corp movement. B Corp adds checks, balances, and purpose to the equation. It's an amazing model with many of the best bits of both worlds.
Would we change our model if it meant we could make more impact? Absolutely, but for now its B Corp for us.
