How Everyday Interactions Shape Our Lives 🧩

Our favourite recent TED talk is Mesmin Destin's (HERE) 💡

It's a hugely impactful outline of his 15 years of experiments testing how the messages we give our young people shape their lives...

  1. Power of Possibility 💪: Destin's studies have found that awareness of financial support for university leads to a 30% increase in attendance AND x2 time spent on homework AND x7 likelihood of handing it in.

  2. Background specific strengths 🌱: When students can be guided to recognise that their adversity has been a training ground and is part of the reason they are assets to society, their perseverance increases +10% .

  3. Importance of Role Models 🚀 When students meet others from similar backgrounds who can provide social support bodily inflammation reduces by as much as 25%

We love his conclusion that the simple messages we give our young people can either shrink your identity and make you feel smaller or expand your identity to bring more possibilities within reach for you and then to work towards"*

If you'd like to land some of these messages to your local young people, or receive them from amazing organisations we work with, we'd love to help.
